A quick note on CWs in my reviews...

I value the inclusion of CWs whenever & wherever possible. I acknowledge & affirm the role PTSD & other mental health issues play in readers’ accessibility to & ability to enjoy & immerse themselves in art of any kind, especially literature.

Therefore, I include CWs in all of my reviews where warranted, just after the star-rating at the end of the main body of text.

I also call attention to any particularly significant (or graphic) CWs for books in my Reading Lists & the annotations for my bookshop.org shop for the books I have read.

While I cannot anticipate nor speak to everyone’s triggers, I do try to include in my CWs list things that felt to me significant enough that were I someone for whom such content might be triggering, then I include it in the list. For example, though I myself do not have entomophobia, if I feel a book is particularly graphic with its use of bug-related imagery, I will include entomophobia in the CWs.

I am deeply sorry if I recommend a book & fail to include your trigger in my list of CWs. I welcome any & all suggestions on how to improve or update both my lists & this practice. Please feel free to add your own thoughts, suggestions, & CWs in the comments below any of my book review posts.

Addendum—

As I have started reading more romance novels (a very new genre for me) I’ll probably start including a “spice level” rating just after the CWs on my reviews. This will be very subjective though & die-hard romance fans will probably not agree with me but fwiw this is how I will organize the spice-/smut-level elements of any of the books I read…

🌶—features a sexual relationship with some kissing / fairly handsy making-out, but no explicit sex on the page

🌶🌶—some sex on the page but it’s fairly tame

🌶🌶🌶—at least one sex scene that is fairly explicit; multiple sex scenes that are fairly tame

🌶🌶🌶🌶—2+ sex scenes that are explicit

🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶—lots & lots of explicit sex scenes (this rating will probably be used for any book where I feel like “ok now *this* is the spiciest book that I have ever read” 🥵)

Please feel free to send me a direct message on any of my social media platforms (see links on homepage) if you have any questions about the content of any of the books I review, recommend, or list on my site.
